About Rob
Rob takes great pride in transforming hotel assets and building asset management teams, with his success occurring through a collaborative partnership that begins with caring for people, coupled with an innate understanding of individual and owner needs.
Throughout his career, he has worked together with property teams to drive shareholder value through challenging teams via stretch goals, as well as appreciating the real estate component of ownership’s needs.
Mr. Tanenbaum’s appreciation for hotel ownership began when he joined Host Hotels and Resorts (previously Host Marriott), where he was responsible for a large portfolio of hotels under the flags of Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt. He was deeply involved with the repositioning of the 1,675-room Atlanta Marriott Marquis including the addition of a 25,000 s.f. ballroom under an existing floor plan, while leading the renovation and repositioning of the 510-room Salt Lake City Marriott prior to the introduction of significant new hotel supply associated with the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Rob’s approach to partnership is deep, personal and effective, and one he embraced to build two highly effective teams at both DiamondRock and Park. It also led to his earning of the highest evaluation marks in a 2019 internal survey – with colleagues noting his commitment to individual development and owner success, as well as his unique ability to collaborate with other departments across the company.
A regular speaker and sought-after media expert, Rob’s appearances include speaking at Hilton’s Sales Leader Conference, Marriott’s Caribbean and Latin American General Managers Conference, and being on panels at both the Hunter Investment Conference and the American Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS). He also speaks to hospitality students at Michigan State, as well as at his alma mater, Penn State, where he graduated with High Distinction with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management. He is a member of the Hospitality Asset Managers Association (HAMA) and previously served four years on its Board of Directors as its Treasurer.
Rob and his family live in Arlington, Virginia where he enjoys cycling and running, walking his dog Fenway, and spending time watching hockey with his kids. He and the family also are deeply connected to the Virginia Hospital Center and its mission in the community.
